Earlier, gas supply from Mari Gas well to Guddu Power Station was suspended around 10:00 pm on Wednesday. When the news of gas pipeline damage reached Mari Gas office, Daharki, most of the gas well staff had gone for Isha prayers.
Field Manager Javed Akhtar Jadoon who had just reached Daharki from Karachi, personally dashed to gas well 10km away and shut the gas supply to avoid further losses.
Field Manager Jadoon told APP that the security of gas pipeline within Guddu Barrage area was the responsibility of Guddu Thermal Power Station administration and Mari Gas had no concern with it at all.
Besides, he said, gas supply as a precaution was also cutoff for Tallo Company, Daharki.
He said on the request of Guddu Thermal Power Plant chief engineer, he had sent a team of Mari Gas engineers and experts to help them in rejoining and repairing the damaged part of the pipeline.
Guddu Power Plant Chief Engineer Jamil Akhtar Arain, while talking to APP from Guddu, said the pipeline had burst due to alleged subversion by unknown saboteurs and the police and security agencies would probe it.
He said the joining team of Guddu Plant and Mari Gas was able to repair the damaged pipeline within 24 hours, after which the supply had been restored.
He said the power plant was run on other gas supply system also which is connected with the Sui Northern Gas Pipeline (SNGPL) and Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) from their Kandhkot wells.
He indicated that security of pipeline as well as the power plant would be enhanced as a first priority to avoid recurrence of such mishaps.
According to Guddu chief engineer partial suspension of gas supply to his plant did not make much difference as supply system from other wells of the PPL and SNGPL was utilised to run the plant turbines, which ultimately ensured uninterrupted power supply to a vast area of Sindh, Balochistan and Southern Punjab.
